A Heart of Rejoicing - Part Two | Devotions to Produce Spiritual Growth
with Diane K Hiltz Chamberlain
As we begin…I would like to share a Bible verse with you; that is found in Nehemiah 8:10 and we read…“Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
How many of us base our joy on what we are experiencing for the moment? I have come to see that when we truly rise above our moments of despair; then we are able to find joy, peace and God’s goodness; despite the problems we may be facing at the time. Do we realize that when we succumb to the problem and allow these moments to take us down; then we have not only given Satan control over the situation but we have also helped him to see that he is winning this battle in our lives?
When we can smile through the dark moments of despair; then we are allowing God to see that we truly trust Him, while we are sending a clear message to Satan; that his methods aren’t working. We need to realize that our reaction to a problem, will either lead us down a road of peace and God’s goodness or a road that will only lead us to further pain and heartache.
Just as Jesus did not want us to grieve over His death; He doesn’t want us to fall prey to the discouraging moments we face but rather, He longs for us to grab hold to His strength; so He can lift us high above these difficult moments, while He aims to draw us closer to Him and further away from the clutches of evil.
