Risen Hope Ministries | What are you feeling? | Anger
"If you are angry, don’t sin by nursing your grudge. Don’t let the sun go down with you still angry—get over it quickly; (27) for when you are angry, you give a mighty foothold to the devil." Ephesians 4:26-27
"Dear brothers, don’t ever forget that it is best to listen much, speak little, and not become angry; (20) for anger doesn’t make us good, as God demands that we must be." James 1:19-20
I don't know about you but for the longest time, I struggled with anger in my life. I know that we cannot use other people as an excuse for what we do but I grew up, with a father that was always angry...to the place, where I would fear him. Isn't it amazing how we can pass these things along, as we move from one generation to another? Through moments of counseling; I eventually came to see that anger wasn't going to get me anywhere; except to lead me into more frustrating moments and a bad headache.
Through time...I came to see that my anger was only opening doors for Satan to work, rather than allowing God to have control over these difficult times in my life and if I wanted to keep the back door of my heart closed to evil; then I had to look for God's peace, through the front door of my heart. I also learned to slowly rationalize each feeling I was experiencing, which helped me to see reality, for what it actually was at the moment, rather than some dreamed up thought; that stemmed from my problems. Once I got my thoughts back on coarse with God; I was able to relax and allow God to walk me through the difficult moments; that I had at one time struggled through.
