Comfort During a Trial-Part Two | Devotions to Produce Spiritual Growth
with Diane K Hiltz Chamberlain
Have you ever had moments, while facing a trial; that you felt so distraught by what you were going through; that you couldn’t even find the strength to pray? I remember a time, when I was going through some tough moments in my life and as I went into the bathroom to take a shower; I found myself silent before God. As I stood there for a moment, I was taken back to something that I had heard and this person had said…if you can’t talk to God…just speak His name; so in the steam of the shower curtain, I wrote… “Oh God, help me!” Do you know that by time I left the bathroom; a peace came over me and a song entered my spirit that I had never heard before and as I listened to each word that was coming from my mouth; I began to feel as though this was God’s way of communicating back to me…to give me hope, during one of the darkest moments; that I had ever experienced.
While sitting here in my office, I was going through my Bible and talking with God, as to what He would have me share with you today and He led me to Romans 8:26-27, which reads… “And in the same way—by our faith—the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying. For we don’t even know what we should pray for nor how to pray as we should, but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words. (27) And the Father who knows all hearts knows, of course, what the Spirit is saying as he pleads for us in harmony with God’s own will.
I have truly come to see, within my own life; that when there are moments, when we cannot utter a word before God; that He will step in and make a way for us. Sometimes, I think we feel that we should always say this big prayer before God but what God longs for; is that we would come to Him as a child. When we can see God as our Father, while we become His sons and daughters; then we can enter His presence in a simple way; that will allow us to become humble in His presence and when we enter His presence in this way; then we will soon find that we are experiencing something powerful; that we have never experienced, with any other person.
Many times in the past, I have seen my hurt and pain, as words that are etched upon the wall of my heart and I know that since God lives within me; that He is there…reading each word that I have etched upon my heart. When we can see God, as a God that will reach down from the heavens, to touch us, at a time when we need Him the most; then we will never feel alone, during the dark and dismal moments that can enter a day.
