Focusing on God - Part Three | Devotions to Produce Spiritual Growth
with Diane K Hiltz Chamberlain
Are we turning to the right source for help, while trying to make a decision? Are we allowing doubt, to dictate our lives or are we turning to the One, who automatically holds the answers, to all of our questions? In James 1:5-8, it says…”If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. (6) But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. (7) That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”
While facing difficult decisions in our lives, do we allow our minds to go back and forth, as though we are being tossed to and fro, on a stormy sea? When we respond in this way, then we are allowing the storm of circumstance to abuse us, which only makes it more difficult to feel peace about the decision we should make. The only way we are going to know the answers to our questions and the only way we are going to be able to feel eternal peace, is when we turn to God for the answers, rather than allowing our minds to shift back and forth, to other thoughts that will never take us anywhere.
We need to reflect on God and what He stands for. Since God was the One who created us, then He is the only source that can lead us to the final outcome of our decision. We will never receive anything from God, when we are unstable and double-minded in our thoughts. The best way to know, if we are handling a decision in the right way, is to determine if we are experiencing peace or turmoil. If we are filled with anxiety, frustration and doubt, then we need to reconnect with God and let Him lead us down the right path. Decisions can be difficult to make but if we allow God to step in and work with us, then we will definitely discover the answers that can free our minds from doubt, fear and despair.
