Good Sunday evening everyone…and a big welcome tonight, to the Heart to Heart Blog! What a great day it’s been! I started out the day, by giving myself to God, through prayer and time alone with Him; then I ended the afternoon, by resting in Him. You know…we don’t realize all that God can be for us, when we are always going after the problems and despairing moments in our lives…but when we choose to rise above these difficult times…I have come to see that this is when we truly come to experience the fullness of a loving and powerful God!
As I’m sitting here…after a very relaxing afternoon, I am enjoying the sun as it slowly sets, while watching the squirrels and birds look for those final morsels of food that my husband gives them each morning. There can be no better way to end this day; then to view God through creation!
It’s hard to believe that we are almost to the middle of another year! Last night, as I sat…working on a few last minute things for the ministry…I was thinking on Memorial Day and what it truly means. I remember a time, when my husband and I used to have a barbeque and actually celebrate this holiday; but I have come to see over the years; that this isn’t a time to celebrate, but rather think back to all, who freely gave of themselves for this country.
You know…I don’t think we fully understand what our military and their families go through…and the sacrifice they make for this country. Only they can truly understand because they are the ones that are always giving up so much; that we might live freely and be safe within this beautiful country that we call America.
You know…on Memorial Day, we mostly think of our country and the price that has been paid, to keep us safe and free; but there is also another price that was paid…a life that truly gave of itself; that we may also be free from sin and despair.
As a teenager, I remember a song that had just been released, titled… “My Cross is My Statue of Liberty”…and here are its lyrics… “In New York Harbor stands a lady, with a torch raised to the sky; and all who see her; know she stands for Liberty for you and me. I’m so proud to be called an American, to be named with the brave and the free; I will honor our flag and our trust in God and the Statue of Liberty. On lonely Golgotha stood a cross, with my Lord raised to the sky; and all who kneel there live forever, as all the saved can testify. I’m so glad to be called a Christian, to be named with the ransomed and whole; as the statue liberates the citizen, so the cross liberates the soul. Oh the cross is my Statue of Liberty; it was there that my soul was set free; unashamed I’ll proclaim that old rugged cross is my Statue of Liberty!
Do we truly understand the price that was paid for our souls, on a hill called Golgotha? As I think back, on all that Christ has done for me…through His death on the cross and through my life in itself; there is no way that I could ever give back enough, to cover the price that He paid for me…and just think, it was all out of love and for no other reason. Jesus never expected us to pay Him back, as though it was a debt hanging over our heads; but rather, all He wanted in return; is that we would believe in Him and accept Him into our lives, as Lord and Savior…it’s just that simple.
So as we look back, on all that has been done and given freely to this country…through our military and their families; we also take time today, to think back to another time…many years ago, when God’s Son, Jesus Christ, became the complete sacrifice for sin, on a sacrificial alter, called a cross. As His cross stood high, on a hill called Golgotha; He became the One, who would welcome and lead many to freedom.
As we take the time, to think back on those, who have freely given of themselves for this country; let us also think back to a time, when God’s Son gave freely, to all who would simply believe in Him. As we close…I pray that you will have a great night…and may your night be filled, with the loving and peaceful presence…of a God who loves you more, than you will ever know! Take good care and I will hope to be back with you again tomorrow evening, as I share more thoughts from the day, along with the goodness of a great loving and powerful God…heart to heart!
Blessings so much on your night…and your Memorial Day!
It’s Always & Only Because of Him…
