Words of Strength that become Weapons in our Lives
How strong are we in the Lord? Do we see God's word as strength to our weakened bodies? In Mark 4:18-19, it reads..."And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, (19) And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful."
Do God's words become strength to our weary minds and spirits? Do we view God's words as something that can become a crutch to lean on, during difficult moments in our lives? When our circumstances become stronger than the words we read in the Bible, then the circumstance begins to choke out the word and we become unfruitful people. A great example of this; is when we see a plant beautifully growing outside. As long as the sun and water are meeting the needs of the plant, it will continue to flourish and become strong but when weeds begin to grow and take over the plant; then the weeds also begin to slowly kill the plant. In a similar way, we can be grounded in God's word and we can be learning and growing, until one day a circumstance enters our lives. When we allow the circumstance to grow and become stronger than the presence of God; then we find that the circumstance begins to take over, while Satan attempts to strangle us with the problems we are facing for the moment.
Let's go further down into Mark 4 and read verse 20, which says..."And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit..." When we are deeply grounded into God's word; then we will find ourselves deeply rooted in Him. No matter what circumstance tries to take over, it won't succeed. In this verse, we see that if we are not only reading God's word but also living it and burying it deep within our hearts; then we will become so strong in God, that the circumstance won't be able to overtake us.
God's words should become tools and weapons within our lives but if we are only reading His word but never allowing the truth to keep us strong and free; then the first circumstance that comes along will choke out the word and we will become unfruitful and useless in the eyes of God. It's so easy to read God's word but where do these precious words go from there? Instead of becoming words of truth with no purpose, they should be words of truth that swell up within us and keep us strong, as mighty warriors for Christ; otherwise, Satan will use the circumstances in our lives to take us away from God and keep us weak.
Are we allowing the cares of the world and the afflictions we endure, to drain us of the strength we once found in God's word? If so, we need to go back to God's word and take the words of truth that He has given us and allow His words to become more than words. Instead we need to allow God's strength to enter each word we read, so we can use His words as great weapons, to fight off Satan and his works of darkness.
