Hello everyone! Happy Monday and a big welcome today, to Moments Spent with God…through the Risen Hope Ministries! I pray that your week is off to a good start and that you will truly experience the best that God longs to give you, in this brand new week!
Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated 34 years of marriage! I have to tell you; that everything hasn’t always been a bed of roses; but God has been there all the way and that’s the secret to a good marriage!
I remember the day of our wedding so clearly and as we left to go on our honeymoon and even move 2500 miles away from our hometown in Michigan; I had so much joy in my heart, as though nothing would ever go wrong; but moments did come, when a time of testing began. In fact, there was a time, when Keith was working at a military base and he hadn’t yet got on full-time; so during the summer he was without work. Due to the condition of my legs and my own health problems, I was unable to work also; so there were moments when things got tight. In fact…at one time, they got so tight; that we ate on a bag of potatoes for several days. I never knew that I could fix potatoes so many different ways! After the bag of potatoes ran out, we noticed a wild plum tree; so Keith went and picked plums to eat and just as we were about to receive Keith’s first unemployment check, we ran out of food completely and for one day, we got a good taste of what it was like to go hungry. Little did we know at the time; that God was preparing us for some unknown mission in life and this was part of our spiritual boot camp. Now we are helping to support someone else through our ministry, who has had a very hard time in life and you know what? I don’t think that we would have chosen to do this, if first, we wouldn’t have experienced what it was like to go hungry. I guess that one thing I’m trying to say today; is that we can either allow these times of testing to destroy our lives and even separate ourselves, from someone we once loved or we can allow these difficult times to push us in the direction, for which God longs for us to go.
Today, if I was to think on one very special moment in our marriage, I would have to say that it was when Keith and I were standing in an open field with our dogs and the colors of a rainbow crossed both of our feet. I know what you’re thinking right now because I was probably thinking the same thing when it happened. This is one day that I will never forget, as long as I live! Here we are…just walking our dogs and looking at a double rainbow in the sky, when all of a sudden, I looked down and the colors of the rainbow were going across our feet and through the weeds around our feet. This was a while before God had called me to serve Him; but I truly believe that this was a moment that Keith and I were sharing with God, as a means of letting us know that His hand was upon us. Since that time, I have now been serving God for 15 years and Keith has been supporting me all the way, through our little visits in my office and his prayers.
One thing I can say for sure, as I close my visit with you today; is that I know with all my heart; that I wouldn’t be where I am with God today, if first, God wouldn’t have brought Keith into my life…because you see; he was the one that God used, as a means of bringing me out of a life that was so dysfunctional and full of abuse; so that He could prepare me, for what I am doing today.
You know…marriage or even life itself isn’t always easy; but it can become easier, when God is in it all! When we can look beyond all the problems; to experience a God at work within our lives; that is when we will truly experience all that God has longed to do for us, since the day He created us!
Blessings on your day!
It’s Always & Only Because of Him…
