Thursday...Dec. 19, 2019 | Christmas baking and memories...

12/19/2019

Good evening everyone…and how was your Thursday? One thing I can say for sure; is that God was truly with me today! My husband chipped in and helped me with my Christmas baking and I was able to have a nice afternoon in my kitchen! Fortunately, I had some leftover chili from last night; so that was lunch…so what I did from there, was make some soft peanut butter brittle and gingerbread cookies…then we had lunch and I rested the foot; then from there…Keith did the dishes, while I baked some date bars and really good mint cookies. All I can say is…thank goodness for a freezer to store it all in. My plan right now is to freeze everything, except for the peanut butter brittle…and that way, we can take out what we want, as we want it.
By the way…if you haven’t had soft peanut butter brittle…you are really missing out. I know that when I was a young girl, my mother always made the hard peanut brittle; but then an old neighbor friend of mine, gave me her mother’s recipe for soft peanut butter brittle…and that was the end of my old peanut brittle recipe. If you haven’t had the softer peanut brittle; it reminds me of the old Clark candy bar…only without chocolate…but you know what…if I was to melt some chocolate and put it on top…wow, would that be good!
Anyways…baking in my kitchen today, really brought back some memories, of the things I used to do at Christmas…like the gingerbread men…only this time, I left them undecorated…which to me are good…any way you want to do them. I also used to make the gingerbread houses…and before God led me to the ministry, I used to get with several of the neighbor ladies and we would make the houses, while their children decorated the gingerbread men. I remember a time, when I even made a gingerbread house, like a log cabin. I rolled the dough into logs and used frosting for mortar; then I had a sleigh with cookie horses and some pine trees made out of ice cream cones and frosting. I’ll tell you…those were the days, when I really enjoyed Christmas baking…because I not only baked for us…but for all the neighbors…and I even sent goodies, for Keith to give the military guys at the front gate…at the military base, where he worked. Yep…those were some good memories that I will always hold dear to my heart!
You know…one thing I’ve learned over time; is to not take time for granted. It seems as though time slips so fast through our fingers as it is. In Psalm 90:12, we read… “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” As I look back on my life; I see moments that became wasted moments in my life…because I was either looking for life to be my way…or I became so caught up in what I was going through at the time; that those moments became moments of needless suffering; but now, I seem to take in everything I learn along the way…and that wisdom from above seems to help me to remain strong in life.
No matter what we face…and no matter what attempts to take over our lives; my prayer tonight; is that we will truly become sponges that soak in the wisdom that can draw us closer to God…into a life that is more abundant and free….a life that we can look back on, without any regrets.
Well…it’s been a good day…but a long one too; so up with the foot until dinner…and then some rest. I hope and pray that your night will be filled with the peaceful and loving presence, of a God who loves you so much! Take care and I will see you soon!
Goodnight…and many blessings on your night!
It’s Always & Only Because of Him…
Diane
