“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. (9) And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. (10) And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. (11) For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (12) And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. (13) And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, (14) Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (15) And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. (16) And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.” Luke 2:8-16
Hello everyone and Merry Christmas! I am so happy that you have stopped by to spend Christmas Day with me! I pray that your day is going well and that you are truly experiencing the true gift of Christmas, which is Jesus Christ!
You know…it seems like the world has become so caught up in the materialistic part of Christmas; that this alone has taken away the old fashioned spirit of Christmas. We spend lots of money to buy gifts that eventually break down or get stored away or even forgotten, while we completely bypass a gift that is eternal…a gift that never breaks down and a gift that longs to keep on giving.
As I look back…thousands of years ago, I think on a God, who longed so much, to show us a genuine love; that He wrapped up His only Son, Jesus Christ in swaddling clothes and sent Him to us as a very special gift; that with time, we might allow this gift of love to be opened up within the heart. Even though the wrapping on this gift wasn’t anything special; it was what was inside the wrapping; that became a rare and valuable gift.
This gift that came to us, so long ago is a gift that not only brings love and great joy to our hearts but when unwrapped within the heart; it continues to work on our behalf, in a way that no other gift can do. This gift doesn’t require batteries and it doesn’t require any assembly. It’s a gift that not only brings instant happiness and joy but it’s also a gift that gives us strength and renewed hope everyday…that is, if we are willing to let this gift serve its purpose.
Once we have chosen to accept this gift from God and we have allowed the gift to be opened within the heart; we soon find that this gift continues to work on our behalf. We also find that this gift never wears out with time and it continues to keep giving…through our everyday lives and even through the trials we may face.
What makes this gift so valuable; is that it can work in ways that no other store bought gift can do. Have you ever had a gift that can love you, in a very unconditional way? Have you ever had a gift that would be there for you, when others walked away? Have you ever had a gift that could turn a bad situation around into something better…and most of all, have you had a gift that could forgive you and offer you an eternal life…free from all pain and suffering?
I don’t know about you but this Christmas and every Christmas to come…I choose the true gift of Christmas, over any gift that may come from a store because you see…I want the gift that will keep giving, even until I take my final step into heaven.
Today…we need to put Christ back into Christmas. For Keith and I, there are no gifts this Christmas because we have a gift that satisfies our every need and we know that with time; this gift will continue to open up other gifts within our lives…gifts that can keep us disconnected from the world and closely connected to the One, who sent His only begotten Son into this world; that whosoever believeth in that gift of love, should not perish but have everlasting life.
Have you checked out the best gift you could ever receive this Christmas? One thing I can say to you; is that it’s the greatest gift I’ve ever received and it has a warranty that lasts for all of eternity. My prayer today; is that we all will reach out and accept the true gift of Christmas; that we may be able to experience the fullness of this gift, for many years to come.
Merry Christmas & God bless!
It’s Always & Only Because of Him…
