As I started to write to you today, I was asking God to give me words that would not only encourage you but also myself, as it’s been a long week of work and pain. As I’ve been sitting here, listening to some music; God has been reminding me that even though the rope we once clung to has now become a thread that we dangle from; that doesn’t mean that we have been cut down and totally destroyed by our circumstances.
You know…these moments of pain and heartache we experience can shake us up pretty good at times but yet we’re still standing and that’s what’s important. I think that if we would look at where we are at the moment, rather than what has taken hold of us; then a flicker of hope would always remain lit within our hearts.
In II Corinthians 4:8-12, we read…“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; (9) persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. (10) We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. (11) For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. (12) So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.”
Sometimes, it’s not always easy to understand why these difficult moments of affliction are allowed by God. One thing I have come to see; is that God can be seen through these difficult moments, when we allow Him to use the affliction, rather than attempting to rage war against these difficult moments that are just too strong for us to fight on our own.
You know…today, we may feel as though the weight of our circumstance is about to take us down for good. We may also feel as though we are about to fall from that last thread of hope but one thing we must remember today…God is much more powerful than weakness and He is definitely the One who can hold us up and keep us suspended above these moments that seem to have no end. Yes…we may feel hard pressed, by what we are facing but we are not crushed…perplexed but not in despair…persecuted but never abandoned…struck down but never destroyed because we have a powerful God at work within us; who has set up a boundary line that evil cannot cross.
