Hello everyone…well, we have now entered the beginning of summer! I don't know how your summer is; but for me…these past few days have been very hot days…and as I awoke once more, to what is going to be another hot day, my mind was taken back to yesterdays weather report, which is showing temperatures of around 110 by Tuesday…which is very unusual for the area in which I live.
Anyways…as I was thinking on this, I was reminded as to how easily we can become caught up in what is happening at the time; that before we know it…we end up believing in what these moments are attempting to convey to us…never realizing that thoughts such as these can shift our faith in the direction of what is actually taking place, rather than in the direction of a God who can help us to overcome what may be standing before us.
While enjoying my time with you this morning; God began to take me back to a little quote that He gave me quite some time ago…and it goes like this… "Safety is not found in the absence of danger, but rather, safety is found in the presence of God." Now if I was to focus more deeply on this hot weather that is coming my way; then I wouldn't be able to turn to the One who could carry me through these moments…or even remove them from me. I wonder how many times we feel that a situation has to be completely removed from our path, before we can actually experience peace. Don't we realize that God is so great; that the rainbow of His presence can be seen, even in the midst of the storm? Again, I think that we are too focused on the weak moments; that we end up falling prey to them. Instead of this…we need to focus on a strength that can actually lift us above the weakness that is attempting to bring us low…and once we choose to do this; that is when we will come to see that with God's strength…we can remain above the weakness and experience peace…despite what may still be standing before us at the time.
This morning, as I've been sitting here…enjoying these precious moments with God; He began to lead me to a couple Bible verses in Philippians 4:8-9, which says… "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9) Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." So…we just can't say that we have faith in God…and then turn around and focus on a weakness that has entered our lives…right? First, we must think on the things that can steer our faith back in God's direction…and then, we must keep putting that into practice continually…and once we choose to do this; then the God of peace will be with us. Just imagine…we can experience peace, even in the midst of a storm…just by focusing on God's strength, rather than our weaknesses.
No matter what you or I may be going through…there is a way of escape…and sometimes, it comes through an answered prayer; but when God's timing hasn't allowed that to happen; we can still experience His perfect peace, just by turning our thoughts away from the circumstance, to focus on a God whose strength is greater than weakness.
