Have you ever felt like the problems you face in life, are greater than any other thing…including God? You know…the circumstances that come our way can make it so easy to get sidetracked in our thoughts…to a place where we see the problem, as a problem with great intensity…one whose power can be displayed to us in such a way; that we begin to feel as if nothing can cure what is standing before us.
As I think on these thoughts today; I am taken back to a story in the Bible about David and Goliath. Can you imagine being small in stature, while standing before the giant Goliath? In a similar way; this is how we can feel, while standing before a circumstance.
One of the Bible verses that relates to the story of David and Goliath; that has truly helped me over the years, is found in I Samuel 17:45, which says… "Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied."
The reason why David was able to bring the giant Goliath down to the ground, was because he did not focus on Goliath's stature or even as to how strong he appeared to be. David knew that even though he wasn't strong enough to bring this giant down on his own…God was; so as David began to put the stone into the slingshot; he let go of every thought, plan and idea…so that the power of almighty God could enter that stone and take over…and because David did so…the giant was brought down to the ground and killed.
One thing I truly love about this story…is that it not only gives us hope; but it shows us that the power of God can truly defeat any giant of circumstance that may cross our path. No matter what we experience or go through in life; this story can be a reminder to us that there is One who is greater than anything…one who can enter these moments and bring these giants of circumstance to the ground…that is, if we are willing to lay aside the fear that we can sometimes feel, while experiencing a circumstance…whose power can make life seem so out of control.
Something has recently helped me to keep my focus on the power of God; and that is when I look out my window and see how everything exists around me. For example…yesterday, I brought in a few peony flowers, which are some of my favorites. As I was looking at them, I could not even count the amount of petals that I was seeing on one flower…and just think…all of those petals were at one time being formed within a tiny bud. Now, if the power of God could take a tiny bud and produce such beauty; then why couldn't He bring these giants of circumstance to the ground? I think the thing we need to do; is to stop sizing up the problem and turn our attention to the One who is greater than the problem. When we can come to truly know who God is…and the power that is contained within Him; then I believe that we will begin to let go of these circumstances, like David did with Goliath; so that the power of God can step in and defeat what is standing in our way.
Have a very blessed day…and ALWAYS know that God is greater than anything you may face in life!
It's Always & Only Because of Him…
