Have you ever wondered why we can feel so lost and distant from God, while facing some very overwhelming moments of circumstance? Could it be that maybe we are either too busy listening to what the problem is conveying to us…or could it even be that we are too focused on what we feel and think could be the remedy to that problem? One thing that God has been sharing with my heart lately; is how we don't always hear the voice of God within our spirits…and gain the words of wisdom that can help us to overcome these difficult moments; because we have cluttered the heart, by focusing on our own ways of dealing with a problem, rather than leaving ourselves empty and open to Him.
As I was looking through some Bible verses this morning; God instantly lead me to a bible verse in John 8:47, which reads… "Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God." Now let's just stop for a minute and really ask ourselves who we belong to. As an example, I remember a time in my life, when I was dealing with some personal family problems of the past, while serving God. Overtime, I began to see how these problems were attempting to control my life…to the place where I found myself struggling with the ministry work that God had called me to do.
As time continued on…the problem only worsened. It was at that time in my life, when God began to speak the words of Matthew 16:24-25 to me, which reads… "Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it". Instantly, my eyes were opened to what God was conveying to me…and from there, I began to see that if I wanted to remain connected to God and make Him my life; then I would have to let go of the problems of the past, so I could gain Him even more. Ever since I made the decision to let go of what was weighing me down…I have had peace and a connection with God that I could have never imagined.
We need to remember that we can't expect God to work with us and help us through the troubling times, if we are connected to our own thoughts and ways…and even what the problem may be attempting to convey to us. If we are ever going to experience the presence of God within our spirits…a presence that can truly show us how to walk away from bondage and experience freedom through Him; then first, we must be willing to choose Him all the way…and not allow any other thought or feeling to clutter the heart. Once we are truly willing to let go of everything except for God; that is when I can say that we will experience a presence that can truly lead us out of the difficult times of despair.
Have a very blessed day!
