A few days ago, I had decided to cut some lilacs and bring them into the office. This is one time of the year I truly enjoy because the smell of lilacs always seems to take me back to some good memories of my great grandfather.
Anyways…after cutting them and putting them in a vase with water, I set them in a place where I could enjoy the sweet aroma of these beautiful flowers; but to my surprise…they began to quickly wilt.
Later…after trying to figure out what I may have done wrong; I decided to look online and see what could be done…and as I searched the internet…I found that I had forgotten to do one important thing…and that was to crush and split open the bottom of the stem…as they do have a woody stem, which can make it difficult for the flower to get the water needed to survive. After doing this with another bunch of lilacs…I have now been enjoying their beauty and aroma.
As I've been sitting here…thinking on what it took to help these flowers survive and remain beautiful; I also began to see how our moments of brokenness can also create new life within us. So many times, we tend to feel as if the broken moments of circumstance will only end up defeating us; but actually, I have come to see how brokenness can help us to be made new…in areas of our lives where we are weak.
As I continued to spend these quiet moments alone with God; He began to lead me to a couple Bible verses in Psalm 119:71, 75, and we read… "It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes. 75) I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me."
You know…just as it wasn't easy for me to take a small hammer and crush the bottom stem of each lilac; I'm sure that God feels the same about us, when He has to allow brokenness into our lives. You know…we can find it so easy to blame the One who allowed that brokenness, during times such as these; but if we could see further down the road, as He does; we would come to see that these broken moments are taking us down to a place in our lives, where we can rise up with Him and be made new.
We must remember that one of God's ways of caring for us; is to look for flaws or weak points in our lives that Satan may attempt to prey on and use against us…and what we may be seeing, as moments where God has abandoned us; these moments are actually allowing us to be broken…that God may remove the weak parts of our vessel; so they can be pieced together in a way that will make us stronger and less vulnerable to the ways of evil.
No matter what we face…and no matter how difficult it may seem; we must remember that God never allows any broken moment into our lives, unless He sees a way to use it, as a means of making us better people for Him. When we can truly come to see our circumstances in this way; that is when hope will remain alive within us…a hope that says that we aren't being broken to be defeated; but rather, we are being broken to be made new.
Have a very blessed day!
It's Always & Only Because of Him…
