Bible Verse of the Day | Psalm 4:8
"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety."
Hello everyone…and how is your Thursday? I can say that mine is starting out great, after a good night of rest; but you know, I was thinking on how these troubled times we're experiencing right now, can definitely affect the way we sleep at times. With all that is happening in this world…and even in our own personal lives, we can sometimes find it difficult to shut down the brain and rest.
This past Tuesday evening…before getting some sleep, I sat on the daybed in the office and just stared out the window. As a gentle breeze began to take me with it…it seemed as though the cares of the day were now leaving me and exchanging these moments for true peace of mind. As I continued to sit there and enjoy these quiet moments; God began to show me that peace can be truly found at the end of a busy day, if we are only willing to let go of the day and focus on the things that can lead us to God's eternal peace.
You know…the way I see it; is that we can either allow the stress of the day to keep our thoughts awake throughout the night…or we can leave those thoughts with God and allow Him to surround us with a perfect peace that can calm each raging storm within.
Let's face it…we all have a night once and a while, where we find it almost impossible to shut down the thoughts and the things of the day, so we can rest. Then it seems that as each sleepless hour passes us by…we find ourselves counting the hours of sleep that remain, until we realize that it's time once more to get out of bed and begin again.
As I look back on my own life, I remember many sleepless nights…especially while recovering from all the knee surgeries that I've had to go through. During those sleepless nights, I did come to discover two things that could help me to rest…no matter what had affected me throughout the day…and the first one, was to have a good talk with the Lord. Yes…some of us may get on our knees and pray to God before we go to sleep at night…and that is good; but I have come to see that getting alone with God, while sharing every broken moment of the day with Him, allows me to be emptied of the day, which removes the thoughts from me; that can easily keep my mind going throughout the night.
The second thing that I have found to help me rest better; is to fluff up my pillow and imagine myself resting in the lap of my Lord. It seems that when I connect myself to God in this way; then I find that I am no longer connected to the thoughts of the day. I have also found that this allows me to feel safely protected and surrounded by the presence of my God, rather than an evil that is longing to keep me awake with these thoughts throughout the night.
Like I said…these days that we are living in can make our lives seem so unsettled at times; but we must remember that even though we may find ourselves alone with the thoughts of the day…God is there too…and He can bring peace, while keeping us safely sheltered in His loving arms. When we can come to see these overwhelming moments in this way; then we will be able to let go of the thoughts that are attempting to keep us awake, so we can take hold of a perfect peace that can become the comforter we need, to help us rest quietly throughout the night.
As we close our visit today, I would like to remind us all; that there is peace in the midst of a storm; but that peace will never be found, when we make the choice to allow these thoughts and cares of the day to have their way with our minds and hearts throughout the night hour. What we need is a good talk with the Lord, so we can let go of the cares of the day and place them in God's hands. Once we do; that is when I believe that we will come to see how God can fill those empty spaces from the day, with a perfect and loving peace for the night.
Well…it's been another great visit with you today! I sure hope that your day will be a good one…and that you will come to experience God's perfect peace, as you rest for the night! Take care…and I will be here again tomorrow…looking forward to another great God inspired visit with you! May God truly bless your heart with His very best! Bye for now…
It's Always & Only Because of Him…
