In the stillness of my morning, peace is beginning to override the busy moments of a new day. Thoughts that once filled my mind to overflowing, are now making room for new thoughts that can inspire and encourage us all today.
As I've been looking out my window this morning…watching the squirrels and just enjoying a peace that can truly give a new day a new start, I noticed that one particular squirrel had been standing by his feeder…and the tree where we place empty peanut butter jars for him to clean out. At first, I couldn't figure out why he was standing there…looking up to the house, with his arms folded; and then I remembered…lately, we have been having a lot of rain, so my husband and I decided to place his treats under a stick house that we once built…to keep the food out of the rain and snow. I guess this confused him and he probably thought that we had forgotten him, so he thought that he would remind us of the empty feeder. Little did he know that his food was under the stick feeder. If only he would have pursued more; then he would have found what he had been looking for.
As I'm sitting here…thinking on this today; God is taking me back to a couple bible verses in Matthew 7:7-8, which reads… "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8) For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."
I wonder how many times we ask God for something and then we expect it to be the way we feel it should be…and if that doesn't happen; then we go back to begging Him again for His help. How many times have we knocked on God's door through prayer…and have expected it to open to our own liking? Just like the squirrel, we can miss out on the true blessing, when we look for it according to our own expectations.
As I have been watching the squirrel that once begged for food, while writing you; I noticed that within a short time, he gave up and went home. Little did he know that he could have went home with a full belly, if only he would have sought more around the yard.
One thing I'm taking hold of more and more in my life; is that when I pray and ask God for His help; then I should not only pursue His help; but I should also see what He may have in mind for me at the time. Remember…His ways are perfect…and I would say that the outcome of His blessings produce much better results, than what we could ever dream up on our own. In fact, I see how His ways fit perfectly in my life…just like a piece of a puzzle.
As I'm sitting here typing this letter to you, while looking out the window…I see how quiet the yard has become. The squirrel food still remains under their feeder; but they've all chosen to give up and go home for now. Is this what we are doing? As God has answered our prayer His way, are we out there looking for what we expect His blessing to be…according to our own way of thinking; or are we seeking and knocking, until we find what He truly longs to bless us with?
As I close my letter to you today, I can say one thing…and that is how this simple story of a squirrel has become a great reminder to me, as to how I should never give up, until I find what God has in store for me. To some, this story may seem silly; but that is not the way I'm seeing it. In fact, I see how God is using a simple story such as this, to help encourage us and get us on the right track with Him.
No matter what you and I face…and no matter how many times we've asked God for help…the thing I think we need to ask ourselves today is this…are we looking for His response to a need…to be according to our expectations or are we truly looking for what He longs to do within our lives? How are you seeing your situation right now? Do you find yourself continually begging God for His help, when all along He has been trying to break through all of your thoughts, with the right response to your need? If so, then maybe it's time to pursue His response even more and truly see what He longs to do within your life. After all…you are the one who has asked for His help.
I sure hope that you enjoyed these thoughts today…and that you will come back again tomorrow, as I will have another letter of encouragement waiting just for you! Take care…and many blessings on your day!
With love & prayers…
It's Always & Only Because of Him…
