This morning, as I look out my window, I am seeing two seasons wrapped up into one, as snow is weighing down the branches that still hold the golden autumn leaves. The yard seems empty, as each squirrel is probably keeping themself safe and warm, from this early winter storm. As the storm continues on, while creating a blanket of snow around me, I am being reminded, as to how God keeps all of creation safe, during times such as these.
While looking through an older study bible this morning, I came across a quote that I once placed on a sticky note in my bible…and it reads.. "Safety is not the absence of danger; but rather, safety is found in the presence of God." As I think on these words that were written many years ago…I am being reminded that we don't need the circumstance to disappear, in order that we may feel safe and at ease. All we need is a place where we can get out of the storm and feel safely sheltered, until it passes by…and that can only be found, when we enter the presence of almighty God.
As I sit here…looking out to a cold and blustery day, I thank God that He has sheltered me and my husband from the storm that came during the night. In fact, these thoughts have taken me back to a favorite bible verse of mine, which is found in Psalm 32:7, which reads… "Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah."
Have you ever thought of your problem or circumstance as a storm? Can you feel the harshness of this storm hitting you in your heart and mind…and are you feeling the blows of evil upon you? You know…we don't have to take the abuse that is coming from these storms, when there is a hiding place that can preserve us from these troublesome storms. Why not enter a place with God, where you can be surrounded with songs of deliverance and peace, rather than anxiety and fear?
The more I think on this today, I am being reminded, as to how we tend to become more focused on the worst of the storm, rather than where we are at the moment. In other words, we may experience these storms; but we're still thriving and making it from day to day, even though these storms may not always be easy to get through…and why…because God has us safely sheltered, under His almighty wings of love. In order that we may remain safely sheltered and protected from the worst of the storm…we must always remember to remain close to Him; for it says in James 4:8a… "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you."
This morning, I can see where the branches on the trees are struggling from the weight of the snow; but yet they are still there…thriving through it all. In a similar way, I see how we can also experience storms that can cause us to struggle from the weight of a circumstance; but if we were to take our eyes off the storm and focus on what is truly taking place at the time; then we too would come to see that we are thriving, like the trees outside my window.
Today, as I close this letter to you, I believe that we can see the storms we face in a much better way, if we would only be willing to not allow ourselves to become caught up in them. Getting caught up in a storm is only going to allow us to be tossed to a fro, through needless moments of suffering. Rather than turning to the storm, we need to seek shelter in the presence of a God, who can safely protect us and sustain us, until the storm passes by.
When I first woke up this morning, the winds were blowing, as snowflakes scattered everywhere. The storm gave the appearance, as though it was only going to worsen with time; but now, as I sit here…the wind has calmed down and the snow has pretty much stopped…and now I see how everything has truly weathered the storm and will be just fine. Remember…storms come; but they also leave, so until the storm has passed, remain safely sheltered with God.
Well…it's time to move on into my day. I sure hope that these words have been of encouragement to you! Please take care and always remember that there is a safe haven…one that can protect and keep you safe, until the storm passes by. Have a great day…and remember to come back again tomorrow, as I will have another letter of encouragement…waiting here just for you! May God truly bless your heart with His loving presence!
With love & prayers…
It's Always & Only Because of Him…
